A short walk and a big shift

Last week something shifted.

Twice a week I walk 10 minutes through my neighbourhood in Olinda, Brazil, past colourful houses, along cobble stone streets, to my morning yoga class.

I love it.

It’s a women-only class held in a room tucked inside the garden of a local human rights NGO.

It’s a calm, grounding way to start the day. We stretch, breathe, move. And then quietly go our separate ways.

We’ve done this for months. The same group of women. The same quiet routine. But, truthfully, we don’t really know each other.

But then something happened.

As I walked with my mat under my arm, one of the women pulled up in her car and offered me a lift. It was literally a 2-minute ride. But in that short time, with upbeat music blasting, I discovered she lives just one neighbourhood over. That we like similar tunes. And she, like me, doesn’t like any of the local gyms.

We laughed. We connected.

And just like that, something changed.

THIS is what unique experiences between people can do.

They crack open the potential for connection.

They build a bridge.

Suddenly, we’re not just strangers who happen to be in the same room. We’re together.

That shift. From strangers to something more. Is the foundation of belonging. And that’s what makes a group work.

It’s about creating space for authentic, unexpected human moments.

This is what we do at TIE.

We design experiences that disrupt comfort zones and bring people together in meaningful, often unexpected ways.

Across departments, sectors, countries.

We stretch perspectives, ignite vulnerability, and build the kind of connection that fuels better teams, better thinking, and better business.

Because when we truly SEE each other. When we share something real. We work together differently.

That 2-minute ride? It reminded me why this matters so much.

Better leaders. Better companies. Better world.
