Stick to your job description

Stick to your job descrption.

It outlines your EXACT responsibilities, expectations, and path to success.

BUT what if the future of work demands something different?

What if rigid job descriptions—and the systems that create them—are holding people back?

Last week, I joined Mariana Moura on a panel for Amcham-Brasil, discussing the World Economic Forum’s Job Report with HR leaders from some of the biggest companies in the Northeast of Brazil.

We explored the reality many organisations are facing: the skills needed to thrive today—critical thinking, resilience, empathy, flexibility, collaboration, and curiosity—aren’t always built into traditional roles.

People must have the freedom and confidence to step outside of the lines. But it’s not easy.

Some key questions emerged:

  • How are we equipping people with these essential skills?
  • As leaders, are we allowing people to step outside of the job description?
  • How can we learn from others rather than reinventing the wheel?
  • How do we evolve business strategies in long-standing companies?

What’s clear is this: Success today isn’t just about technical expertise—it’s about emotional intelligence, adaptability, and the ability to inspire and collaborate.

These skills aren’t just nice to have; they’re business-critical. And they can be developed.

Developing these business critical skills is exactly what we do at TIE Leadership. For 20 years, we’ve been helping leaders rewire how they think and work—so they can build agile, high-performing teams that drive real impact.

If you’re keen to dive deeper into these ideas and understand how we do what we do, let’s talk.
