For those of us who remember the Y2K scare—when the world held its breath over potential computer errors as we transitioned into the year 2000—it felt like a global experience. The hype was inescapable, dominating conversations and news cycles for months.
Later that year, I arrived in Thailand and curiously asked my university colleagues if they had shared the same concerns. Their response floored me: “You do know that the year is 2544 here, right?”
Wow.
That moment was a profound realisation—a humbling reminder that the world doesn’t revolve around the Gregorian calendar, or any singular way of thinking.
It was a pivotal ‘aha’ moment that shifted my perspective forever.
Life has a way of pulling us into comfortable routines.
We surround ourselves with like-minded people, indulge in familiar comforts, and reinforce our own biases. But staying within our comfort zones blinds us to the broader realities of our interconnected world.
In my work, I’m constantly exposed to global challenges faced by diverse communities. I’ve witnessed the energy that comes from stepping out of the status quo, embracing new perspectives, and engaging in dialogues that challenge our assumptions. It’s in these moments of discomfort that real growth happens—when we connect with others, understand our interdependence, and solve problems in innovative ways.
What do you say? Let’s step out of our comfort zones. Let’s seek out those ‘aha’ moments that challenge our worldviews and help us see the bigger picture.
If you’d like help getting your people to do just this, that’s what I do. From speaking, to workshops, to full blown experiential life changing training in person or virtually. Reach out and I can explain more.
