On Friday last week Carnival kicked off (although since August every weekend it’s been like this in front of my house).

Carnival is such a fascinating phenomenon.
For four days, it’s a chance to break free—where joy, creativity, and connection take centre stage.
The streets are alive. The energy is electric. Strangers become friends.
A moment to shed expectations, let go of constraints, and fully embrace life.
For a few days, social barriers fade.
People from all walks of life come together, moving to the same rhythm, sharing the same space, celebrating something bigger than themselves.
It’s a beautiful example of what happens when we lean into community, spontaneity, and a shared experience.
But what happens when the music fades? When the costumes are put away, and life returns to “normal”?
It makes me wonder: Why do we reserve this kind of freedom, expression, and connection for just a few days a year?
What if we brought more of this spirit into our daily lives? Into our workplaces? Into how we lead?
More openness, more collaboration, more humanity.
Imagine the innovation, the energy, the impact we could create.
Through my work at TIE Leadership I have seen firsthand the power of stepping outside of rigid structures—beyond hierarchy, routine, and the weight of “how things have always been done”.
When this happens on our programmes it truly unlocks something powerful. Creativity flourishes. Barriers dissolve. People become more human.
On TIE Programmes it’s all about designing environments where people feel free to be themselves, to innovate, to connect with others, to contribute with purpose. And our goal is to then bring that into the every day, not just on special occasions.
So, as I dance in the streets for the next couple of days, here’s a thought: How can we bring more of Carnival‘s magic into our lives?
How can we create workplaces where people feel this alive, this connected, this free to be their best selves?
What can you do to try and integrate a bit of the Carnival spirit where you are?
What would that look like?
